I was reading the papers, there have been many reports of inflation reaching a new high. People cannot cope with the increased prices everywhere. Fuel, food, housing have been more expensive. The Sunday Times even reported senior citizens surviving on PA assistance ($290 per month) saving, scrimping just to live a decent life. One even saved money by not switching on his lights at night. And pictures were shown one having canned food for lunch. It was also reported that one had milo and bread for dinner. These are old people who cannot even support themselves, who have disabilities/illness and yet all the government could do is to give them $290 per month. The government could give our 18 years old recruit $400 per month but only $290 to old people who cannot even support themselves.

When we highlighted the issue, a minster actually asked us to lower our standards of living. Well done.

Here we are spending money lavishly to meet our material needs and there you have old people who cannot work and eat milo and bread for dinner.

Maybe we should change the social welfare system especially for those old/disabled/sick people who cannot even support themselves. Maybe it is also time that us the middle class/elites should do more to give back to the society.

It's the festive season for goodness sake, lets spread the joy.
