stereotypes?

I was talking with my friend on the way home, when we suddenly started talking about the stereotypes and the common traits of a jc student.

I can think of quite a few. Being rigid and inflexible, an almost fanatical obession to following the rules and always wanting to question the purpose or reason of why certain things are done this way. I have also noticed quite alot of my jc friends can actually be dubious and stubborn sometimes. And it can be very annoying sometimes. NATO, it seems is also a common jc students' traits.

Talking about rigid and inflexible, I think jc students are quite famous for that. An obession to following the rules. You ask them to take a bend around the rules, or take a short cut, it is like asking them to chop off their own flesh from their thighs. Make some changes here and there, and they will probably be telling you that you are breaking the rules and its a no go. And ask them to break rules, it is even tougher, akin to asking them to go and die.

Secondly, jc people seem to like to question the purpose of why certain things are done. I dont know how the system has caused them to behave like this. My friend suggested that perharps the reason is because of the analytical nature of the subjects they study. Or maybe it is because of the rigorous examination system, where students are taught and trained to be able to answer any questions thrown at them. When asked to perform the task, its like they are asked to give the answer without knowing the question. Therefore they are keen in knowing the "question" and keep probing about the purpose of doing the task.

Being dubious seem to be another annoying trait of the jc student. They are highly doubtful of other arguments and ideas, resulting in them being not as receptive to other people's ideas and thus becoming a poor team player. Being dubious has also resulted in jc students being seen as rather debative. Becacuse of their doubtful nature towards other ideas and arguments, they will go on and on and keep debating about the idea. When you are trying to convince him into believing your argument, he will always first express doubt in your argument, then begin questioning you and finding ways to shoot your argument down.

Last but not least, NATO, No Action Talk Only. Perharps being in a highly academic system for some many years, they are being taught to think, to argument, but when it comes to the real crunch, to performing the real task. They falter. They keep on arguing, brainstorming but no action is made.

All the traits discussed above seem to be the more common sterotypes among jc students. But of course not all jc students are like that, there is always exceptions. But nonethless, stereotypes often contain certain amount of truth. Perharps we should go deeper and brainstorm on how and why the system has produced these kind of students.
