Change is natural, change is not new.
I just got myself a book, titled "The World Is Flat" by Thomas Friedman. The book discuss about globalisation that seems already started since the ancient times and now accelerated due to the advances in technology. It also talks about the inevitable trend of outsourcing by companies and how globalistion will affect countries, companies and the individuals.
There was a line in one of the pages, "change is natural, change is not new, change is important."
Ah, change, things change all the time. The environment change, system and rules change, even the people around you change.
Environment, the landscape changes, especially in land scarce Singapore. For example, the once green, virgin grasspatch at marina south will be soon see changes, IR, hotels, roads all coming up. An once familar haunt might be gone 20 years down the road. You feel alien when revisitng the old haunts years later, only to find it replaced with new developments, be it residential or commerical. The nostalgic feeling, the attachment, the bond are all gone.
Lastly people, people around you, people dearest to you. They change. You yourself change too. If one day, you realised that your friend has changed, he is no longer the person you know him to be. Will you still accept him? Or will you distance yourself away from him? Especially long- time-no-see buddies, the guy you once knew inside out. Due to time constraints you all rarely meet, but one fine day you all meet up, through talking with him, you realised he seems alien to you. He's no longer the buddy you knew. His set of values might had changed, his appearance and dressing were different from before. Will you still try to "re-know" him again? Or he may seems too ailen and distant to you that you perharps decided to strike him off from your "Good Friends" list?
Maybe over the years, coming through all the lessons, the hardships, the different people you meet, you changed too.
Change is inevitable, natural. I have no qualms about changing, but its sad when change were not for the better but for the worse.
