a life of mediocrity
After all the celebrations and all the dust had settled, reality starts to set in. On first look, our results may seem not bad, above average. But then competition is so tough nowadays. ABC is considered average?
The more i think, the more i feel i had led a life of mediocrity.
Losing to the elites in the national education system is bad enough, now in the future, we got to compete with foreign talents for jobs.
Welcome to the globalized world.
There's how many hundred thousands of graduates from china and india graduating from their local university yearly. They are willing to accept a pay check half lesser than you, their working capabilites are on par or even better than us and they are ever willing to work long hours and endure hardships.
Suddenly it seem all is doom for us despite our seemingly 'presentable' results.
Flipping through the brochures, it seem kinda confusing for me. There so many courses to choose from and its like all the courses do not have much prospect or seem to be very dull and uninteresting.
Science degree seem to be too general, engineering too tough for weak physic students like me, biz degrees on the other hand seem rather common, unless if you graduated with one from SMU. For an adventure in the IT field, you will find yourself competing with cheap and highly skilled workers from india and china.
It's like there's nothing more to choose from. There's no bright future for us.
So in the future I will be slogging my life out everyday? Working OT every other day, trying to pay the endless loans, bills, debts, children's educational fees and wats more with the ever increasing living cost in Singapore.
It seem we have been sentenced to a life of mediocrity, slogging hard for the rest of our lives till our death and kenna dua daily by our superiors.
Perharps life will be better if I was bornt in a family of farmers in some rural areas of New Zealand?
Looking after lambs and milking cows doesn't seem like rocket science to me.
