Recession but not in Singapore?

The recent IT show at Suntec City was a great success, numerous people thronged the 3 day fair and it was said that it was so crowded that police was called in to help in crowd control. There was even a record sales of $59million dollars.

No recession in Singapore?

Many container ships are seen anchored around Singapore's port, apparently with no goods to transport. Quite a many retail shops being forced to shut down and there were news of retrenchment here and there. There was also news of 15000 people applying for 800 IR jobs.

Somehow these two scenes just do not connect.
